Close 2 U- Raveena

Hello everyone and welcome back to another blog post! As always, I have another amazing artist to share with you today. I was actually introduced to this artist by an old friend of mine last year. Having this blog is really great because not only do I get to share great artists with you, but I also get to discover them too. So if you have an artist or a certain song you would like to see on here let me know! Alright, back to the artist for this week’s New Girl post who is Raveena! Raveena Aurora was born in Massachusetts but grew up in Queens New York and Stamford Connecticut. Ravenna’s family was originally from India but moved after the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which was a series of massacres against Sikhs in India. During middle school Raveena discovered different genres of music like R&B, Soul, Jazz, and Folk. After studying at New York University Tisch School of Arts, she worked with producer Everett Orr to get her first EP out called Shanti in 2017. Since then Ravenna has released several singles, EPs, and a full album called Lucid (2019).

For this post I will be discussing one of her most popular songs on her 2020 Moonstone EP: Close 2 U. As of now, Close 2 U is listed as her number one song on Spotify. Raveena’s vocals are so beautiful and it definitely shows on this song. Her vocals combined with the instrumentation sound like a sweet lullaby that can put you in a trance. The beginning of the song starts off with an acoustic and electric guitar that makes you feel like you are at the beach and can hear the waves rolling in the distance. Soon after a keyboard is added along with her voice; this is really what puts you in a dream-like state of mind. The lyrics are so vivid: “One mattress, few boxes. You are moving too soon. Wanna jar up these moments for the rest of my June.” I love that last line because of how unique the wording is. Raveena’s harmonies sound so amazing and make the song sound complete. I could play this song on repeat all day, especially the chorus. This song is so relaxing and puts you in a good state of mind. Raveena is definitely an artist you need to check out!
